Castelli ALPHA ROS 2 Thermal Jacket : LIGHT BLACK/WHITE

When Castelli sat down to make the Alpha RoS 2 Jacket, their goal was to create the perfect winter jacket. By starting with a list of things they didn't like about current jackets, they could solve all of this and, in doing so, make the best winter jacket ever.

 

Using a double-layer construction, the Alpha RoS 2 features an outer wind-protection layer that can be opened, while the inner insulation layer stays closed. This allows you to choose when you want to ventilate, letting airflow in and moisture out. The openings (neck/waist/wrist) were also important to redesign. The Alpha RoS 2 has a neck that comes up high and is shaped to move with you, whether you're out of the saddle, or down in the aero position. The waist features a stretch layer with silicone beads that lie flat and completely shuts out wind while keeping the jacket from bunching or riding up. The unique achievement of this jacket is a brand-new double-layer wrist opening. The inner layer goes under your glove and seals tight to your wrist, while the outer layer goes over top of the glove, so rain and moisture roll over the top and outside your glove, instead of dripping inside.

 

Of course, what would the perfect winter jacket be if it didn't hold up in the rain and wet conditions. Naturally, Castelli built the exterior from GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® fabric along with waterproof seam taping on critical seams around the shoulder. Other seams are hidden away from direct water flow, and the water-repellent treatment does a great job of preventing most moisture from getting in. Castelli considers this jacket essentially waterproof, after applying after applying all their efforts to find a balance between water protection, breathability and comfort. It doesn't mean that no drop will ever come in, but after longish rides in real rain you should come out completely dry.
